Union Terrace Gardens

Aberdeen's Union Terrace Gardens are threatened with redevelopment by ACSEF. The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland host this image - from 1869 by architect James Forbes Beattie - which shows the beginnings of the scheme we have enjoyed ever since.

Am I the only one who thinks Aberdeen City looked much nicer in 1869 (including the surrounding areas (pre-Union Street bridge) than now?

One only has to eastward at the raised area created at St Nicholas Street to see what the future of Union Terrace Gardens will become.
That area is not maintained and is in a word 'grotty'
UTC is unique and adds a green aspect to a grey city centre.
